A Birthday Surprise

One of the biggest reasons we made the trip to Columbia (and listened to a screaming baby in the car for 1 hour and 18 minutes on the way there) was to surprise Susiebell on her birthday (July 4th!). Tara and Eric spent Friday night with her and were planning to cook out for lunch on Saturday. So Saturday morning as we were pulling into her neighborhood Justin called to wish her a Happy Birthday. We were walking up to the door and Justin was on the phone with her and then we rang the doorbell and she said 'hold on one second someone's at the door' and it was us!! Her reaction was priceless - a mix of shock, tears and utter joy. Of course she had Tara and me in tears too. She recovered quickly though and we had a really good day together.

Susiebell fed Haley while Arrie watched.
Playing with Haley and watching her close the pop up frog on her bus. The happy newlyweds!
We had a great lunch with hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, broccoli slaw, baked beans, home made salsa and more good food. And while Haley took a much needed nap we played a few rounds of Battle of the Sexes - which, of course, the girls won! We also had cake and ice cream for the birthday girl!
Haley was quite taken with the balloons.Aunt Tara and Haley
Susiebell and Arrie listened to Haley play the keyboard.
We also got some really good family pictures on the front steps. It was such a great day with the family and we had so much fun being the birthday surprise. It really meant a lot to us to be there to celebrate with Sue in person.
