Mothers' Day Getaway

We went to St. Simon's Island for a long weekend and our first getaway as a family of three. We left Wednesday morning and came back Sunday and stayed in a two bedroom condo at The Beach Club. Once we got there, unpacked, changed and fed Haley, we went for a walk on the beach, on a little drive around the island and out to dinner. It was our first time taking Haley out for dinner (we've done lunch a lot, but hadn't tried dinner until now) and she did great. She talked and played for a little while and then when to sleep.

The view from our balcony!

Thursday we went down to the village, walked around the pier and by the Lighthouse. It's amazing how people just come up and talk to you when you have a baby. On the pier a really nice old man came up to us and said "Your baby told me she wants a fishing pole so she can catch some fishes." We assured him that her Granddad would get her a fishing pole as soon as she was ready. Next we drove out to Fort Frederica and walked around and looked at the historic ruins. Haley was really good and enjoyed riding around and napping in her stroller. Then it was back to the condo for lunch and naps.

After lunch and naps we went got our suits on and went for another walk on the beach. On the way back we stopped and took Haley for her first dip in the pool. It was kind of cold, but she didn't seem to mind too much. She smiled a couple of times and didn't cry at all!

Friday we drove around the island some and went to look at Christ Church. Then we had lunch at the condo and went out to the beach and pool again. Later we went to the activities center and played some pool. After Haley went to bed, Justin got some take out and we waited for my parents to get there.

I love Spanish Moss at the beach!

Saturday morning the boys played golf while the girls played at the condo and then went back down to the village where we all met for lunch. Haley started making a really funny face while we were at lunch. She would stick out her head (like she was a turtle) and then stick out her lips too. I don't know where she got that and I didn't get any pictures of it, but it was really cute. After lunch Granny stayed with Haley and napped while Pops, Justin and I went down to the beach and pool. Then Justin and I went out for dinner while Granny and Pops put Haley to bed. We went to Barbara Jean's which is "famous" for their crab cakes - which were really good. We also really liked the She Crab Soup and absolutely loved the pumpkin cornbread with honey butter. We didn't eat hardly any of our entrees but we did take some bread pudding and "Chocolate Stuff" home for dessert.

Sunday morning we got up and started packing to go home. It is amazing how much extra stuff you need for such a little person. We took some Mother's Day pictures and then we went home while Granny and Pops stayed to play on the beach a little. It was an extremely relaxing weekend and was really nice to spend some quality time together as a family. And then it was nice to have some time together as a couple once Granny and Pops were there to babysit Haley.

The car loaded up to go home!
